Paddle, birdwatch and step back in time where the Manduvirá meets the Paraguay River.
Where the Manduvirá River meets the Paraguay River, less than 70 km from Asunción, Puerto Olivares is a former López family estancia turned nature station, styled like an old railway stop. This relaxed day trip paddles the quiet waters of the Manduvirá toward the confluence, with egrets, herons and other waterbirds along the banks. On land you will walk forest trails, visit the Olivares Oratory, a private chapel begun under Carlos Antonio López and inaugurated in 1862, now being restored, and browse a small museum of railway memorabilia. Return to Asunción by evening.
